The Spring Creek Ranch Community is growing and we welcome
all newcomers and invite them to participate in our own
community-based stream restoration project.
After much planning and preparation, the Spring Creek
Restoration Project got underway this fall (2006).
Volunteers from the community have worked to address storm
water runoff, soil erosion, and sedimentation by helping with
planting and cleanup projects along portions of Spring
Creek.
Repairing this section of the stream involved removing tons
of garbage, re-grading stream banks, installing fish habitat,
and planting hundreds of native plants. The first phase of the
project is near completion with the second phase coming this
summer. The construction of the paved trail system along the
stream will begin in the early spring of 2007.
Aside from the tremendous amount we have accomplished with
the stream, we have also hosted preschool groups, nature
learning workshops for kids, Eagle Scout projects, community
learning workshops, and even university studies.’
We have also had four articles written about our
restoration project and community in the past few months.
By the time the project is completed, Spring Creek Ranch
and the City of Lehi will not only have made great strides in
restoring a beautiful stream and surrounding wetlands but will
also spark environmental awareness in the community that will
continue far beyond the lifespan of the Spring Creek
Restoration Project itself.
Please visit the restoration project, and most importantly
get involved!
